The IINH, the University of Iceland and the Agricultural University of Iceland take part in the International Tundra Experiment (ITEX), a long-term project examining the response of tundra and alpine plant species to climate change. There are two study sites in Iceland, located at Þingvellir and Auðkúluheiði. Findings have been published in a number of journals, including PNAS (doi.org/10.1073/pnas.0503198103) in 2006, Global Change Biology (doi.org/10.1111/j.1365-2486.2005.00928.x) in 2005, and Nature (doi.org/10.1038/s41586-018-0563-7) in 2018.
