The IINH reference libraries in Garðabær and Akureyri are an important resource for anyone interested in the natural sciences and nature in Iceland.
Holdings include some 12,000 book titles (in Icelandic, English, German, Danish and a number of other languages), 2,500 maps and 35,000 offprints of articles on Iceland's birdlife, geology and botany. The library also subscribes to 450 journals and book series.
Our libraries are open to the public. We do not have regular opening hours, however, so please contact us ahead of time if you plan on visiting the library in Garðabær or Akureyri. We lend out materials only in exceptional cases, but photocopies of our holdings may be made on the premises.
Books and journals are now fully searchable on leitir.is, which includes the national catalogue for Icelandic libraries.
Enquiries and requests should be sent to bokasafn at ni.is.
