Libraries

The IINH reference libraries in Garðabær and Akureyri are an important resource for anyone interested in the natural sciences and nature in Iceland. Our libraries are open to the public, but we do not lend out materials to non-staff members.

Our holdings include some 12,000 book titles (in Icelandic, English, German, Danish, and other languages), 2,500 maps, and 35,000 off-prints of articles on Iceland’s birdlife, geology, and botany. The library also holds 450 journals and book series.

Books and journal holdings are now fully searchable on leitir.is, which includes the national catalogue for Icelandic libraries.

Opening hours are by appointment only. We do not have regular opening hours, so please contact us ahead of time if you plan on visiting the library in Garðabær or Akureyri.
