Brent goose monitoring
Brent geese breed in arctic regions of North America, Siberia and Svalbard. Brent geese that breed in North America stop in Iceland in spring and autumn on their way to wintering grounds in the British Isles – most spend the winter in Northern Ireland.
The goal of this project is to monitor this population by means of bird counts in autumn and spring. Brent geese migrations have also been monitored with the help of satellite transmitters in collaboration with partners in the UK and Ireland, including the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT).
